KJB continues anti-litter, recycling efforts in 2008

The bright "no litter allowed" signs popping up all over Jasper County are a fundraiser for Keep Jasper Beautiful, the all-volunteer organization that sponsors cleanup and recycling efforts throughout Jasper County.

Spokesperson Karen Williamson said "Sparky" Sparks of Adult Probation donated several signs on behalf of the city and county offices. Williamson said a number of businesses and neighborhoods have ordered the signs, which run $125 with sponsor logo, or $100 without.

"The proceeds help support our cleanup and beautification efforts," Williamson said.

KJB also brings the recycling trailer to the parking lot at Community Church on S. Wheeler every third weekend of the month. Volunteer Patty Shaw says that participation in the recycling program has been steadily improving as people become aware of what can be recycled:

Paper: includes newspaper, magazines, catalogs, mail, paperback books. Plastic: plastic bottles, jugs and jars. Aluminum and steel: cans only. Cardboard: corrugated boxes, cereal boxes, paper towel rolls.

KJB meets the first Tuesday each month at 11:30 a.m. in the Woman's Civic Club across from Wesley Center. For more information, contact Williamson at 384- 6069.
