Fire siren back in service
      "Don't be alarmed by the alarm," is the word from the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department, according to JVFD volunteer Bob Gary, who also works for the city of Jasper. The fire siren has been out of service for several years because the metal tower corroded and needed to be replaced.

Kirbyville to hold non-partisan debates
      The Kirbyville Women's Civic Club and Kirbyville Lions Club are hosting a chili supper and political form Saturday, Feb. 16, beginning at 5 p.m. Letters went out to all candidates from both parties inviting them to the a political forum starting at 6 p.m.

      The Democrat Club of Jasper County will host two forums for the candidates to speak during February and March. The first debate will be Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Jasper County District courtroom at 7 p.m. The second will be at the Buna Sub-Courthouse Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m.
