Brookeland walk the halls
By RICHARD TURNER Principal, Brookeland High School

Welcome to Brookeland ISD. We are a Pre-K through 12 school located on Loop 149 in Brookeland. We average 27 students per grade and are proud of a student to teacher ration of 10 to one.

As you travel through the halls of our school, you will see many varied activities. Students are excited about projects in Destination Imagination and other gifted and talented activities.

UIL academic competition is extremely important in elementary, junior high and high school.

This week our high school student council and cheerleaders will sponsor a school-wide Valentine dance.

Our varsity boys basketball team will be in the paly-offs this season. Other students are preparing for baseball, softball, track, golf and tennis.

The school academic committee is anxious to begin the Governor's Excellence Grant that was awarded to our school in January. This will be used to increase achievement in our academic areas. We have our sights on a school TEA score of "excellent."

Brookeland schools' superintendent, Lana Comeaux, with board support, has energized the campuses through a new school building project and campus wide improvement in lighting and internal technology.

You can locate our school on our new webpage at www.brookelandisd.net. Principals Judy Soucie and I enjoy showing friends, visitors and guests around our campus.

The place to be is the Big B, and it is nice to be recognized as the fastest growing school in Deep East Texas for 2007. Please come and visit with us.
