Brady announces nominations to military service academies

U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) today announced Jasper and Newton County students who has secured a nomination from his office to one of our nation's military service academies.

"A strong military has never been more important, and America's service academies produce outstanding future leaders of our nation. Individuals who receive appointments to these distinguished institutions are outstanding leaders in their communities with proven character and integrity," said Brady.

This year's academy nomination from Jasper County is:

David Cleveland-Hadley, United States Air Force Academy (Jasper HS)

This year's academy nomination from Newton County is:

Phillip Taylor, United States Air Force Academy (Deweyville High School)

Each member of Congress is guaranteed only one appointment to each academy, Air Force, West Point, Naval, and Merchant Marine. However, because the 8th Congressional District is known for exceptional candidates, Congressman Brady is hopeful many of this year's nominations will be offered appointments.

In order to be offered an appointment to a military academy, a candidate must first be nominated by their U.S. Representative or Senator. In the case of Congressman Kevin Brady, students residing in the Eighth Congressional District of Texas are encouraged to apply to his office for a nomination. For students wishing to attend a military service academy in 2009, their completed application must be into Congressman Brady's Conroe office no later than Nov. 3.

Students interested in applying to one of the military academies should speak with their local high school guidance counselor. Congressman Brady's office is coordinating service academy information with local high schools through these counselors. Students can also learn more about the process and download the application at www.house.gov/brady, or by contacting Brandon Reese in our Huntsville District Office at 1-936-439-9532.
