Wood appointed interim Beaumont District Engineer

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has named Bryan Wood, P.E. as Interim District Engineer for the Beaumont District. Wood will oversee all state transportation related projects in the Beaumont district.

"This is a great opportunity," said Wood. "The Golden Triangle and all of Southeast Texas continue to make giant strides in improving transportation. Its an honor to continue that drive toward excellence and quality in the regions transportation system."

Wood's 25-year career with TxDOT began in 1983 after graduating from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Architectural Engineering. His first assignment was as an engineering assistant in the Bridge Division. In January 1994, Wood returned to UT Austin earning a master's degree in civil engineering. He again worked for the Bridge Division until 1996 when Wood was transferred to the Brownwood Area Office as Associate Area Engineer. In 1999, Wood was named the Corpus Christi Area Engineer and became the Deputy District Engineer in the Corpus Christi District in 2000. He was named Bryan District Engineer in December 2003.

In 2005, Wood worked closely with the Beaumont District during the Hurricane Rita recovery efforts.

Wood replaces John Barton who was promoted to Assistant Executive Director for Engineering Operations in Austin. Wood and his wife, Judy, have two daughters, Amy and Keri.

The Beaumont district is comprised of Jefferson, Hardin, Jasper, Tyler, Newton, Orange, Chambers, and Liberty counties.
