Schools warn kids how to deal with cyber bullies

When children are young they sometimes have to deal with the threat of being bullied in schools and away from home. Now, with the inovation of internet and text messaging, there has been a major issue with cyber bullying.

When on the computer 'chatting', kids can keep in touch with their friends and make new ones, but most recently there is the issue of being bullied on-line instead of friendly conversations. Adults are not there to take action and help their kids out most of the time because they do not even know about the world their children have created on-line.

The 'bully' can e-mail directly to the other student hateful and hurtful comments or can spread rumors about them. With the internet being world wide, rumors can spread instantly with the touch of a key or click of a mouse.

To take action parents should:

•Become involved and be aware of what is taking place with their child on the computer. Learn what they can about the internet sites their children are visiting and encourage their kids to talk to them if ever a problem occurs.

•Encourage kids to develop their own moral code of how to act and behave when on-line. Talk to the kids about being responsible and not to post negative or vulgar comments.

Kids can also take action and be apart of stoping cyber bullying by:

•Guarding their contact information. Never give out confidential or personal information about themselves.

•Tell an adult if being harassed on-line. Do not continue talking to the source that the hurtful comments are coming from.

Take a stand and speak out, no one likes a bully.
