Jasper High School students will "put on the glitz" and don the latest in formal wear fashions Saturday night for the 2008 Prom Style Show & Expo. The annual event is designed to preview prom fashions, accessories and services for students at area high schools.

Jamie White, JHS faculty member and prom committee chair, said the event was originally created as a fashion show to help subsidize JHS prom expenses. However, this year, the event has been expanded to include the expo, too.

"The style show has been an ongoing event for several years. It is one of the main fundraisers to help with decorating and facility costs. Last year's prom committee, headed by Martha Morian, had broached the idea of adding an 'expo' but did not have time to bring it together."

This year's committee thought the expo was a great idea, so White has invited local vendors to rent table space to promote their businesses and offer prom specials to the public.

"We have also advertised at some of the local high schools hoping to have students from other schools attend," White said.

Geneva Sporich, owner of Arc & Sparkle, provides gowns and tuxedos for the style show, and Salon Hollywood provides hairstyles and makeup for the models, who are juniors and seniors at Jasper High School.

Some of the participating vendors are Capelli Salon & Day Spa, Bottoms Up Tanning & Fitness, Hill's Creative Photography, Say Cheese Photography, Petals & Pebbles Floral & Gifts and Academy of Hair Design.

The style show and expo begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Tickets are $5 at the door. Also, White says it's not too late to participate as a vendor. Anyone who would like to rent a booth may contact her at Jasper High School at jwhite@jasperisd.net.
