Jasper moves to 4-0
The Lady Bullogs began their scoring effort 30 seconds into the game when Haley Shipman took a short shot from about six yards from the goalie. Jasper had taken the ball from Diboll when they tried to open the game with a kick back to one of their midfielders. No less than five successful passes led to Shipman's goal, Coach Ron Vickers said. Jasper scored again on a shot that had rebounded from the goal area to midfielder Tabitha Wagnon who was just beyond the 18-yard line. Wagnon sent the ball above the reach of the goalie and into the net. Within minutes, the Lady 'Dogs scored again to go up 3-0 on a shot that was ultimately tipped in by a Diboll defender. "Allison Collins rushed to finish a shot that was crossed from the right flank," Vickers said. "In the effort to keep Collins from scoring, the defender stepped in front and the ball deflected off her and into goal." Jasper went on to score two more times in the first half. Caroline Kipp shot from the end-line on the left side, sending a curving ball into the net. At first, the referee thought she had missed, but was able to confirm that the ball entered the net and then slipped under. Allison Collins scored the final goal of the half. Jessica Alvis headed the ball on a perfect assist to Collins on the wing. Collins dribbled and shot from the left flank, bending the ball into the back right corner of the net. Kelsey Walker and Jessica Alvis scored the remaining two goals in the second half. Walker scored on a shot that was mishandled by the defending goalie, and Alvis shot from straight in front of the goal to the right bottom of the net. "Diboll was unable to get a single shot off against the Jasper defense and only penetrated into the18 yard box a couple of times," Coach Vickers said. Jasper was playing Nacogdoches at home last night, a team that hasn't lost a district game this year. Nacogdoches is 6-0 but they have not faced Henderson, the other undefeated team. "In common opponents, Nacogdoches and Jasper have had similar results," Vickers said. "This promises to be a competitive game and the results are likely to have a bearing on how both teams finish the first half of the district schedule." Friday is a bye. The Lady 'Dogs face Livingston on the road Monday, Feb. 11. |
