The Jasper boys soccer team split last week, tying Diboll and losing 4-1 to Henderson.

The Diboll game ended in a 0-0 tie. The Lumberjacks are a new team and like Jasper, they haven't won a game this year.

"They are a first-year program and they played us hard the whole game," Coach Chris Coats said. "We had so many chances to score, which was great; however, we failed to capitalize, ending the match with a 0-0tie.

"We finally played a complete game and our mental faculties are getting better," he said. "We just have to get the ball to the goal. Defense played extremely well. Sophomore Alex Guadian stepped in and played well for his brother Chris who was out sick."

The Bulldogs played well against Henderson earlier in the week although they weren't able to pull off a win.

"We're getting better every week," Coats said. "We played well last Tuesday against Henderson. They came in undefeated and fresh off a win over Jacksonville. We played a physical game and were even at the half at 1-1."

Kaleb Burrows scored the goal with an assist from Ossama Zafar.

Coats said that the 'Dogs continued to play well in the second half but kept the ball in the middle of the field too much and broke down defensively, leaving Henderson the 4-1 victory.

"There were bright spots in the game overall," he said. "We played well and created more scoring opportunities for ourselves. We also played well on defense the first half."

Jasper played Nacogdoches on the road last night and will be at home against Livingston Tuesday, Feb. 12. Game time is 6 p.m.
