Stop everything! The UIL speaks

This past week, the state of Texas waited at the edge of their seats.

The every two-year decision was about to be announced last Friday and Texans all across the state waited to hear the decision.

Newspapers, television and radio stations across the region waited to break the news before any of their competitors.

No, Roe vs. Wade was not being considered.

No, the state legislature was not coming up with a plan that might make sense to fund the public school system.

And no, Tony Romo was not announcing whom he is dating right now.

The University Interscholastic League was announcing their realignment changes to athletic districts and sports enthusiasts waited to hear where new rivalries might be sparked up.

It might be February, but Texas high school football is still king.

This week, we learned that Jasper High School will take its athletic prowess north in competing in the newly formed District 18-3A. Gone were district contests with West Orange-Stark, Silsbee and Kirbyville. Now those teams are on the Dawgs' nondistrict schedule.

And the news also impacted Kirbyville, who made the long rumored move to Class 2A, where the Wildcats will be paired off in the same district with Newton and Woodville.

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and every two years he comes down from his UIL home in Austin to bring us the gifts of realignment.

Now, where do we get tickets for that Newton-Kirbyville contest?
