JCSO investigates family stabbing
By SHARON KERR Staff Writer

Sheriff's deputy Chris Pelletier found himself in the middle of a family disturbance that resulted in the arrest of two family members, with a third transported to the hospital in Lufkin for treatment of a stab wound.

Pelletier responded to a call about 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, Feb. 9, on CR 22. According to Sheriff Ronnie McBride, the call was placed by Patsy Howell.

Allegedly, her son Richard Sheffield came home inebriated and wanted to take his chil- -dren, but an argument about car safety seats ensued. When Patsy Howell and her husband, Jerry Howell, refused to let Sheffield take the children, Sheffield pulled a gun.

At that point, Jerry Howell allegedly stabbed Sheffield in the chest and Patsy Howell called for help.

Pelletier was assisted by the Tyler County sheriff's office and DPS. Richard Sheffield was transported to Lufkin for medical treatment.

Jerry Howell, 53, was arrested on aggravated assault and, as of Monday, was still being held in the Jasper County jail on a $25,000 bond.

Patsy Howell, 50, was arrested and charged with public intoxication on a $500 bond, made bail and was released Monday.
