JISD sets dates for May election

      The Jasper Independent School Board of Trustees has approved Saturday, May 10, as the uniform election date for election of trustees. Those whose terms expire are Eddie Hopkins and James Riley, and Brenda Job, each for a three-year term.

Job resigns from JISD board

      The Jasper Independent School District Board of Trustees accepted, with regret, the resignation of President Brenda Job at their regular meeting Monday night and decided not to appoint a new member at this time because it is so close to the trustee election to be held in May.

H.E.A.T. registrations help Jasper achieve 24 percent decrease in auto theft in 2007
      The Southeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force stolen vehicle statistics from 2007 show a 6.5% drop in auto thefts for the year. Jasper County had a 24% decrease for the year with 35 thefts. Grant will help Texas' efforts to insure children
      The Texas Collaborative, a partnership of the Children's Defense Fund, the Center for Public Policy Priorities and Texas Care for Children, announced a $225,000 grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to strengthen the state's efforts to cover all uninsured children.

Booth sales open for bluegrass concert
      Booth sales are now open for the Jasper County Bluegrass and Gospel music concert to be held April 11 from 5 - 10 p.m. and April 12 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. at the Jasper Lions Rodeo Arena, Hwy. 96 North. The concert will benefit Lakes Area Hospice and several area chambers of commerce.
