Lakes Area Rose Society

Political forums

The Democrat Club has scheduled debates at 7 p.m. in the Jasper County district courtroom, Feb. 14, and at the Buna Sub-Courthouse Feb. 19. The Kirbyville Women's Civic Club and Lions Club have set a nonpartisan chili supper and forum for Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. at Kirbyville Elementary School cafeteria at FM 86 and U.S. Hwy 96.

ETHAN's HearThrob Cafe

ETHAN's HearThrob Cafe will present a class on cooking and high blood pressure Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at their office at 117 W. Houston St. in Jasper. RSVP at 384-2099.

Community Nurse Fair

A free Community Nurse Fair will be held Feb. 16 from 12 - 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Park Central, 2929 Jimmy Johnson Blvd. in Port Arthur. For more information call 983-6435.

Industrial training

There will be an industrial training summit Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. for Region V high schools, and open to the public from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Ford Park Exhibit Hall. The event is sponsored by severa branches of Lamar and will highlight specialized training and scholarships, as well as offering a change to meet recruiters from companies like Eastman Chemical, Valero and more.

JNEC board meeting

Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative Inc. monthly board meeting will be Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Jasper- Newton Electric office in Kirbyville.

Mardi Gras Banquet

The Jasper High School National Honor Society will have a Mardi Gras Banquet Feb. 23 in the Shell Gym at 6:30 p.m. To purchase a ticket for an evening of music and Cajun food see an NHS member or contact the high school at 384-3242.
