Florine Martin Perry Graveside services for Florine Martin Perry, 94 of Jasper will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Pineland. Mrs. Perry died Monday, February 18, 2008 at Dickerson Memorial Hospital in Jasper. A native of Pineland, and formerly of Mercedes, she has lived in Jasper since 1990. Florine was selected as an outstanding Elementary Teacher of America. She was honored in the 1975 edition of Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America, the programs annual awards volume. She had taught school for over 36 years and had worked with boys & girls as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and as leader of Junior Members of American Legion Auxilary. She has served on the executive board of the P.T.A. and was a member and past president of Alethean Study Club, she has helped with civic projects such as fund raisers for the P.T.A., Methodist Church, Muscular Distrophy and the Library. For pastime Florine wrote articles and children's stories. Her articles were published in TIPOf - TEXAS OUTLOOK, The Mercedes Enterprise, The La-Feria News, The Valley Citizen and many other newspapers. Her stories for children were published by Primary Treasures, Church Herald, and Children's Friend. A toy she designed for children is featured in Primary Treasure. A magic clock she designed in 1973 with her accompanying story helps children learn to tell time through play. She published "The Three Bears," "The Three Little Kittens," "Red Riding Hood" and "The Lord's Prayer," all illustrated by little children from Mercedes, La Feria, Harlingen, Weslaco and McAllen. Survivors include her stepsons, David Johnson of Olmito, TX and Col. W. E. Perry, Jr. & wife Eloise of Tuscon, AZ., seven step grandchildren, and a number of nieces & nephews, including Delories Chambers and James A. Clark of Jasper, and Charles Osborn, Jr. of Pineland.
