New Lighthouse COGIC names Preston Moore lifetime achiever

Preston Moore was named for the Black History Lifetime Achievement Award at the black history program at New Lighthouse COGIC Feb. 24.

Moore is a graduate of J. H. Rowe High School, received a bachelor's and master's degree from Prairie View A & M, and administrative certification from Stephen F. Austin University.

Moore began teaching at Rowe Elementary and later served as Principal of Parnell and Rowe. He retired in 1992 after serving JISD 31 years.

Moore is involved with many community organizations such as Kiwanis Club, Jasper Retired Teachers Association, the Boys and Girls Club, City Rehabilitation Housing Association and the Lone Star Youth Council.

He is a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, and the son of the late Sam and Satry Moore. He is married to school teacher Marion Moore.

Moore was ill and unable to attend the ceremony; former mayor R.C. Horn accepted on his behalf.
