Floyd announces for JISD board
"I have lived in Jasper for over 32 years. My wife, Cecilia, and I are both 1984 graduates of Jasper High School," Floyd said. "Even though my career has taken me out of Jasper, I have three children that are actively involved in the School District. Drake is in the 8th grade at Jasper Junior High and Whitney and Natalie are in the 3rd grade at Parnell Elementary. "My children are the sixth generation of my family to reside in Jasper County," Floyd said. "I have nieces, nephews and numerous friends with children in the district. Jasper is my home and very special to me. "It is very important to me that the children in this district have the opportunity to receive a quality education," Floyd said. "The current board has displayed great leadership to our school district and I would like to see them continue that. I would like to be part of the team that continues to provide educational opportunities to the students as well as supporting the administration and staff." Floyd has 20 plus years of public service experience through municipal government and is currently employed with the city of Lufkin as a department director. "I oversee the 12-county regional recycling center, the solid waste and fleet maintenance departments," Floyd said. "I supervise a large group of employees and manage one of the largest budgets with the city of Lufkin." Floyd is a member of First United Methodist Church in Jasper and is also a member of the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Lodge, a past baseball coach and current softball coach for Jasper Youth Baseball Association. He also is a 16-year member of Jasper Ducks Unlimited where he has served as past chairman. "I am currently working toward the completion of the Texas Certified Public Manager Program at Stephen F. Austin State University," Floyd said. "This program focuses on public sector finance and budget, personnel, quality management and organizational communication. This program along with my past years of experience with the city of Lufkin has been a learning experience for me. "It is really exciting to be part of a progressive, forward thinking organization that promotes growth," Floyd said. "It is my hope to bring this experience to the Jasper Independent School District Board of Trustees." |
