The Jasper Lady Bulldog softball team lost their opener to Diboll 10-1 last week but won three out of five pool games in their own Jasper Lakes Area tournament over the weekend.

"We didn't hit the ball well against Diboll," Head Coach Nancy Walker said.

"We also had five errors and left eight on base. Diboll got eight hits. Our pitcher, Jesse Cordova, struck out one and walked five."

The ladies lost their first tournament pool game 3-0 to Warren. Jasper had only two hits to Warren's six. Cordova walked three and had no strikeouts.

They picked up their first tournament win, 7-2 over Memorial.

"We hit the ball well in this game," Walker said. "Jocelyn Land had a single, Keyna Mason hit a double, and both Murissa Mays and Chanel Lewis had singles."

The also defeated Colmesneil 2-1 and West Hardin 3-0.

Land and Cordova singled against Colmesneil, and Mays got on base with an error and then scored on a bunt by Reba Dougharty. Land stole home.

In the West Hardin win, Mason singled and scored on a pass ball. Cordova and Dougharty got on with walks, and both scored on a hit by Andreis Castle.

The second tournament loss came at the hands of West Sabine who posted a 9-1 victory.

Mason had an RBI and Cordova singled. West Sabine had five hits. Cordova walked three and struck out two. There were no errors.

"The tournament was great this year," Walker said.

"We had a great turnout despite the rain. Most teams were glad to get games in with the rainy weather this season. We had 20 varsity teams and 10 JV teams. My assistant coaches Carla Geeslin, Jeremy Carroll and I thank everyone for their help in making it a success. We couldn't make it happen without the support we get."
