Walking the halls
By MERVIN CLEVELAND Jasper Junior High School Principal

Jasper Junior High School offers you greetings once again. By the time you read this, the seventh grade will have taken their TAKS writing test, and the eighth grade will have taken the first of three administrations of the TAKS reading test.

We are hopeful that the students of both grades are successful on the March 5 administration. The results of the eighth grade reading test should be back around March 21.

In preparation for helping the students that were not successful, tutorial classes will be held from 3:30 until 4:30 until the next administration. At the same time, the math department will be having tutorials in preparation for the upcoming math TAKS on April 8.

Junior high students have access to a new computer program called “Study Island.” This selfpaced computerized program has been implemented at school with the capability of being used at home. I urge all parents that have access to a computer at home or any other place to encourage your student to take advantage of this program.

The school is doing all it can to help each student be successful. This can happen if students participate in the morning and evening tutorials along with the self-paced study island program.

This a reminder that in the third, fifth and now the eighth grade, students must pass the reading and math TAKS test in order to be promoted to the next grade. Please keep in contact with your student's teacher to monitor your student's progress.
