Newton Lions Club

The Newton Lions Club will meet March 6 at the First Baptist Church. Guest speaker will be Jennifer Gobert of the Texas Workforce Commission. Lunch will be served.

Texas Federation

District 5 of the Texas Federation of Chapters Convention, Silsbee-Jasper 1319 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, will be held March 7 at the Catfish Cabin in Jasper at 9 a.m. Guests will be Jerry D. Hatfield and Texas Federation Officers.

Redbud Open Rodeo

There will be a Redbud Open Rodeo March 7 - 8 in Buna at the Buna Bridle Club Arena at 8 p.m. with many events. Books open March 3 from 6 - 10 p.m. Call 745-1471 for more information.

Retired Teachers

The Jasper Retired Teachers Association will meet March 10 at J.H. Rowe Intermediate School. Park at the Church of Christ on Hwy. 96 by 10:45 a.m.; a bus trasnport members to Rowe for lunch. Entertainment will be the Rowe Fifth Grade Choir.

Rose Society

The Lakes Area Rose Society will meet March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Jasper City Counil Room, 465 S. Main St. in Jasper. Speaker will be Mark Lundee. Call 423-4756 for more information.

Azalea Festival

The 20th annual Azalea Festival will be held on the courthouse square in Jasper March 15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendor and sponsor applications are now available at the Jasper Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce at 246. E. Milam St. or call 384-2762, or go to www.jaspercoc.com.

Library book sale

The Jasper Public Library holds a semi-annual book sale in the fire hall across from the Library during Azalea Festival, March 15. The sale preview and membership drive is Friday, March 14, 5 - 7 p.m. For more information, call 384- 3791.

Jasper Share Food Pantry

Jasper Share Food Pantry, 279 S. Wheeler in Jasper, is open Mon. - Fri. from 9 a.m. - noon to serve as a basic food provider. For more information call 384-9910.

Spaghetti lunch

During Azalea Festival March 15, members the Arboretum project will sell a chicken and spaghetti lunch from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Beaty Orton house, one block from the library on Water Street.

4-H fundraiser

Jasper 4-H will sell barbecue lunches in front of Brookshire Brothers on U.S. Highway 96 in Jasper from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 21.

Elvis lives

Jesse Aron, Elvis impersonator, will perform his last concert of his Texas Tour 2008 at the East Texas Jamboree in Broaddus March 28 at 7 p.m. For more information call Steve Fountain at 832-623-4812.

Taste of Jasper

The Pilot Club will hold the 13th annual Taste of Jasper Saturday, April 5, as the Wesley Center from 5 - 8 p.m. Letters have gone out to local restaurants for the 18 booths available. Project graduation

Air Show

The fourth annual Jasper Air Show is scheduled for April 5-6 at Bell Field and will include air and ground shows of vintage and experimental aircraft, radio controlled planes, sky divers, and classic cars. For more information, call Debbie Foster at 384-2626.

Kentucky Derby

The Woman's Civic Club of Jasper will hold their Kentucky Derby luncheon, a fund-raiser open to all, at Gloriana Farms Thursday, April 10, from 11:30 to 1:00. The first derby lunch was held last year at the Swann Hotel l; Lynn and Ed Few offered their home for the event this year. For more information call Darlene Nolen at 384-8759.

Bluegrass and gospel music

A concert will be held April 11 from 5 - 10 p.m. and April 12 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. with Jasper County bluegrass and gospel music with food and arts and crafts at the Jasper Lions Club Rodeo Arena, Hwy. 96 North. For more information call 594-8606.

USS Boxer Veteran's
