Larry C. Nesmith

Larry C. Nesmith born on December 18, 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the age of 64 years. Larry completed over 40 years of civil service in the pharmacy field. He was instrumental in implementing the pharmacy technician certification program in which he received numerous awards and recognitions. Larry is survived by: wife, Jean Nesmith; mother, Billie Nesmith; daughter, Laura Brunk and Glen; son, Capt. Jason A. Nesmith and Nigel; sisters, Nina Messersmith and Brenda Glenn and Dickie; brother, Rick Nesmith and Sue; grandchildren, Allison and Ashley Kate Brunk; and other family members and friends. The Funeral Service was held on March 4, 2008 at Parkhills Baptist Church with interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of San Antonio.

Charles Louis Tansil, Jr.

 

Charles Louis Tansil, Jr. 86, of Rayburn Country was born on August 19, 1921 in Plaquemine, LA, the son of Pearl (Huffner) Tansil and Charles L. Tansil, Sr. He went to live with his Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Harbor Hospital in Orange, TX.

As a young man living in Nederland, TX, Charles was involved in Scouting. He was proudly awarded his Eagle Scout Badge from Admiral Richard E. Byrd. Later he became an active scout master for many years guiding his scouts through the Fhilmont Scout Camp in New Mexico.

Charles graduated from Nederland High School in 1938. He studied engineering for two years at Lamar College in Beaumont, TX where he met Clare M. Heiselbetz, his love of 65 years.

Charles graduated from Texas A&M University in the class of '43 as a mechanical engineer. After graduation he worked for General Electric designing and building special turbines to be used on aircraft carriers during WWII.

In 1944 Charles joined the Navy and served as Lieutenant Junior Grade, an executive officer aboard a ship that patrolled the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea for enemy submarines.

After WWII, Charles was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation in Port Arthur, TX where he worked for 37 years, as Director of Utilities, Gas, and Heavy Chemicals. In 1967 Charles served as Manager of The Gulf Oil Refinery in Purvis, Mississippi near Hattiesburg.

Charles was a registered Texas Professional Engineer. He represented the Gulf Oil Corporation in Washington, DC working several admirals and high ranking officials on confidential government contracts. He was a member of the American Petroleum Institute and established the Sabine Chapter of American Society of Mechanical Engineers where he served as president for many years in Port Arthur.

In 1982 Charles retired from Gulf Oil and moved with Clare to their dream home at Lake Sam Rayburn. He and Clare wanted to share their good fortune and love for Texas A & M University by creating an Endowment Scholarship fund in Mechanical Engineering to provide aid and encouragement for leaders of the future.

Charlie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Port Arthur where he and Clare taught Sunday School for many years. After their retirement they joined the Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church where they made many wonderful friends. Charles helped establish their neighborhood homeowners association and served as president for many years. He also helped establish the Lake Rayburn Volunteer Fire Department.

Charles Tansil was preceded in death by his parents Pearl and Charles Tansil, Sr. and his sister, Kathleen Brittingham.

Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clare M. Tansil, two daughters, Karen F. Patrick and her husband, Buzz of Lufkin, TX and Janet G. Tansil of Sam Rayburn, TX, one brother, John T. Tansil of Dallas, TX and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Arnett of Tomball, TX, one granddaughter, Allison M. Patrick of Austin, TX, several nieces and nephews and other family members.

Charlie loved being with his family. He was a wonderful husband, a loving father, a precious grandfather and a fun uncle. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, and encouraging and conversing with everyone. We can all say "he never met a stranger."

Pallbearers will be Michael Looney, Raymond Due, Brent Meaux, Randy Bridges, Brett Holloway and Andrew Gay. Honorary pallbearers will be John Arnett, J. B. Heiselbetz, Leo Johnson, Herman Heiselbetz and the late Bob Sutton.

Services will be held 10:00 A. M. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper with Reverend Jeff Bell of Cove Baptist Church in Orange, TX officiating. Military graveside rites will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, TX. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday March 5, 2008 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.

Johnny C. Sanders

 

Johnny C. Sanders parted from this world on February 29, 2008 at his home in Jasper, he was 88 years old. Mr. Sanders was born, raised, and schooled in Oklahoma where he was a successful Home Builder and Real Estate Broker in the Tulsa area before retiring in 1982. He and his wife traveled extensively in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Mr. Sanders had many hobbies, the longest being Rockhounding, beginning in 1970 and continuing until the present. He was also an Honorary Member of the Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Jasper, Texas, Gem and Mineral Clubs, the Jasper Post of the American Legion, and the Lakes Area Cruisers. He was separated a commissioned officer from the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in World War II from July 1941 until September 1945.

Cremation services were held under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper.

Survivors include is wife of 64 years, Dorothy Sanders of Jasper, Texas; his son, Johnny Sanders and wife Rhonda of Orange, Texas; and by his two grandchildren, Cady and Kelsey both of Orange, Texas. Mr. Sanders also had six half brothers and sister, five still living. He also had many cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as friends from all over the United States.

Johnny C. Sanders will be missed by all that knew him. God Bless.

Charles Lee Dacus, Sr.

 

Charles Lee Dacus, Sr., was born November 22, 1927 in Jasper, Texas. He was the oldest child of four children born to the union of R.C. Dacus and Ruby Hicks Dacus. He joined Evergreen Baptist church at an early age in Jasper, Tx.

Charles attended J.H. Row High school in Jasper, Tx., where he graduated in 1945. He left Jasper and moved to Vallejo, California, where he met his soul mate for life., Charles married Ollie Ruth Daniels where they shared 60 wonderful years together.

Charles later served in the Army of the United States where he received an Honorable Discharge in February 1947. He made his home in San Francisco, California where he reunited in 1949 with First Union Baptist Church.

Charles worked as a Longshoreman where he retired after 32 years. He loved helping out in the community. He worked with the neighborhood Watch Patrol. He was a member of the Network of the Elders for five years and also on the RAB Board for the community of Bayview Hunters Point. Charles loved being a member of the Senior Strutters where he learned to line dance.

Charles loved his sports. He was a dedicated San Francisco 49ers fan. He has held season tickets for 50 years. He rarely missed any home or televised games. He loved tailgating with his family and friends.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Ruth Dacus of San Francisco, two sons: Charlie Dacus Jr., of Denver, Colorado and Charles Edward Dacus of Brentwood, California; goddaughter, Sharon Raymond of antioch, California; sister, Ruby Jane Tyler of East Palo Alto, California' daughter-inlaw Gina Dacus of Brentwood, California; cousins Mamie Morris, J.J. Breckenridge and Johnnie Lee Cooper, all of Jasper, Tx.; five grandchildren: Renee Dacus of San Francisco, California, Eric Curry and Errica Curry of Antioch, California, Armari Chambers and Daante Jones of Brentwood, California; two great grandchildren, Cierre Curry and Jaylon Curry of Antioch, California. He leaves a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

Also, preceding him in death was his mother and father, R.C. and Ruby Dacus; brother Ernest Dacus and sister Amanda Grimes.
