Carriage rides will follow Azalea Trail Azalea Feastival tries to find at least one new attraction every year, according to Liz Street, events coordinator for the Jasper Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce. "This year we have two," Street said. "We will have horse and carriage rides around the Azalea Trail for the first time, and we have the history museum preview and dedication this year." The Gazebo entertainment schedule is published on page 6- 7B of this issue. In addition to the businesses, craft booths and food vendors around the square, a number of other locations will have Azalea Festival activities. The public library hosts their bi-annual book sale at the Fire Hall on Water Street, one block south of the square. The preview for the sale, and Friends of the Library membership drive, is held Friday, March 14, from 5-7 p.m. The Aboretum committee will be selling chicken spaghetti plates on the grounds of the Beaty Orton house. The rock club is hosting an open house at 110 N. Zavalla with free coffee by club member Don Ramey, who will soon open The Flying Saucer. The Rod Run Car Show will be set up on Austin Street in front of the Belle Jim Hotel. The Junior High School kids will again offer bus tours of the solar system, a five-mile scale model of the solar system that runs from the sun at 190 and Houston, to the ex-planet Pluto in front of Bulldog Stadium. The museum preview will include items from Tom Harken and Louis Berry's private collections, a chance to see the plans for expansion of the museum, and volunteers in period costumes. The Jasper Lakes Area Humane Society will host the petting zoo and offer train rides for children, and Mooney's will have the super slide, Moonwalk, and an obstacle course. |
