Jasper falls to Orangefield 2-0
By GEORGIA PURDY Newsboy Correspondent

The Jasper Lady Bulldog softball played only one district game last week, losing out 2-0 to Orangefield.

"Jesse Cordova pitched her best game this year," Coach Nancy Walker said. "She allowed two runs, had two K's and only two hits and only walked one."

Orangefield left nine on base; Jasper had two hits, stranded four and had six errors, one of those cost an in-the-park home run, Walker said.

Orangefield scored in the second and seventh innings.

Murissa Mays got on base with a slap between short and third and Jocelyn Land got her infield hit to the shortstop position.

"We didn't hit the ball again," Walker said. "Our defense looked good but we didn't get the bats warmed up again. Orangefield's pitcher threw 16 strikeouts."

Jasper's youth is a factor this season since there are a significant number of players with little or no experience.

"Our kids are young and haven't played at this level," Walker said. "They aren't getting the bats on the ball and we are spending a lot of time on hitting part of the game so it should come around for us soon. Chanel Lewis and Andreia Castle did a real good job in the outfield in the Orangefield game."

The Lady Bulldogs were playing Bridge City on the road last night and will be at home Friday night against Hamshire-Fannett. Game time is 5 p.m.

"Both are good teams with good pitching," Walker said. "We will have our hands full this week."
