The Jasper High School FFAAg Mechanics team broke new ground for the Jasper Independent School District by traveling to compete in this year's Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for the first time in the school's history. The JHS team; seniors Kyle Bailey and Brad Martindale, and sophomores Dustin Wagstaff and Kolby White.

After a day of judging, both the team's roping chute and steer dogging cage received blue ribbons. The big thrill came the next day at the awards when the roping chute was awarded third in its class.

"Since this was the first time that Jasper has had any project entered in Houston, I think this is quite an accomplishment," said JHS sponsor Ed Meyer. "We have already started planning for next year."

The team also expressed its thanks to Jasper's O'Reilly Auto Parts, who donated materials for the winning roping chute and the steer dogging cage.
