Lorena Martindale Owens

Lorena Martindale Owens, 98, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at her home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Jasper County. On August 8, 1909 she was the first born to Florence Goode Martindale and Henry F. Martindale. In 1927, she married Willie Owens, who preceded her in death in 1969. All her siblings also preceded her in death.

She was a charter member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. She was very faithful and active in the church, teaching Sunday School, helping with Bible Schools, and other church activities for many years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, and especially gained a reputation for her fine quilting.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper with Bro. Rayburn Pickering and Bro. Danny Cryer officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Frobisher of Lafayette, Colorado, Catherine Owens Hoofard of Jasper, Texas, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
