By GEORGIA PURDY Newsboy Correspondent

Raymond Hafford will be Jasper High School's lone contestant at the state power-lifting meet in Abilene March 29. Hafford combined for 1430 pounds to take second place in the region meet at Coldsprings, March 1.

Hafford competed in the 242-weigh class where he lifted 600 pounds on the squat, 330 on bench press and 500 on the deadlift.

"The squat is my favorite event because it is my best," Hafford said. "I've been lifting for four years and this is the first time I've qualified for state. I'm excited to be going. I think I will probably place third. There is a lifter from Palacios who is very good."

Five members of Jasper's team competed at the regional event: Deanthony Limbrick in the 123-weight class, Fred Jackson, 198; Trey Horn, 220; and Kimpton Lewis, 242.

Places are determined by combined total of weight. The boys' team is coached by Ty Robinson.
