Your Viewpoint Letters to the Editor What does Easter mean? Is it colored eggs, bunny rabbits, Easter baskets, egg hunts? Is it a parade of fashions? Can it be no more than the mental and psychological observance of a Christian holiday or a ceremonial ritual in honor of a special season. This is what Easter is to a lot of people. I do not believe in that kind of Easter. It is many things of greater value. It is a guard finding the dead body he has been guarding is gone. It is Mary Magdalene with spices to anoint the body, but no body. It is an angel uttering the greatest words of hope ever spoken to men: "He is risen!" It is a run to the cemetery by Peter and John. It is a prayer meeting in the Upper Room, suddenly broken up by the entrance of the Savior. It is the time of year when we are aware of the essential landmarks of Christianity - the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. This is the Easter I believe in, it includes the Life-after-death concept. The religion of the empty tomb says, "There is a future life and I have proof of the revelation of it in the gospel of Jesus Christ." If we don't have Easter in our heart, we cannot find it in an Easter basket, rabbits, or any egg hunt. The only way is to be born again. On the alcohol issue, why the silence from our biggest churches, our community leaders, so deafening? Courage? Apathy? So can we agree that "look on and do nothing" can be "stupid" when it affects our community. Mainly the young people God is not mocked, we will reap what we have sown.
