Walking the Halls This school year seems to be going so fast. Our parent involvement has been wonderful this year. The week of March 10 - 14 was Texas Public Schools Week. Throughout the week we had parents and family members visit their child's class. Tuesday a special invitation went out to PreKindergarten and Kindergarten parents to visit. Wednesday first and second grade parents were invited. Our turn out was great. Teachers displayed their students' art work and writing pieces outside their classrooms making the building look great. Some teachers asked parents to read with their child or read to the class. When a child sees their parent or family member involved in their education, research shows that a child does better in school. Some parents may not be able to visit the school during the school day; however, helping the child at home with school activities is being involved. Thank you to all who stay involved in their child's education. While enjoying all of the Spring activities and the wonderful weather, the students are working hard to do their best and learn all they can. Faculty and staff are also working hard to make every moment a learning experience and to expose each child to everything he/she will need to be successful next year. Even though we do not take the state administered TAKS test, we will be assessing our first and second grade students with reading and math assessments. This will give us a benchmark as to their academic needs for next year. Another tool we use is the end-of-year Texas Primary Reading Instrument which will be administered individually to all kindergarten, first and second grade students the week of May 5 - 9. This will allow us to see how each child has grown academically throughout the year. Also, during that same time period, pre-kindergarten teachers will be testing their students with the Kindergarten Readiness Test. Each of these assessment tools is used to gather academic data and provide teachers information on how to individualize each child's learning experience.
