Newton walking the halls There are many things going on at Newton ISD this time of year. High school track is off and running. The boy's baseball team is currently 1-1 in district play, while the girl's softball team is currently 2-1 in district play. The Lady Eagles golf team continues to do well. We have one student, Jeffery Byery, who will compete at the State Power Lift meet in Abilene March 29. We want to wish him well. JaCoby Ross made All Region in basketball, and we had several recognized in All District Basketball. Included were Johnny Brown, New Comer of the Year, JaCoby Ross and Stephen Alfred- first team, Nelson Watson, Ken Hunter and Buddy Mattoxsecond team, Dominique Hartsfield, Nicholas Adams and Keith Collins honorable mention. All District in girls' basketball were: Charyse Arnold-first team, Addison Staley and Juanita Watson-second team and Crystal Foster- honorable mention. Our six graders will be attending an interactive program on the preventation of bullying March 26; the Drug Abuse Council from Lufkin will perform a puppet show for Pre-K through second grade. March 13 our kindergarten and first graders went to our local post office to participate in their program. All campuses have completed the first round of TAKS testing. The regularly scheduled board meeting was re-scheduled for March 27 at 6 pm in the Newton ISD Boardroom because of the spring break. |
