Kathleen Prewitt Williams
Kathleen passed away March 19, 2008 at Blount Memorial Transitional Care Center in Knoxville, TN. A native and lifelong resident of Jasper she was born on November 12, 1922 to T.B. and Lou Ella Prewitt who both served Jasper County as District Clerk in the 1930s and 40s. She graduated Valedictorian in the Jasper High School Class of 1940. While in high school, she played girl's doubles tennis, winning many regional events, and advancing to the 1939 state tournament in Austin. In 1945 she married John R. Williams and continued a career in legal secretarial work which over the years shifted to accounting and tax work. Her professional career spanned 65 years of service to many businesses in Jasper, Newton, Sour Lake and Leesville, as well as countless tax returns for individuals in Texas and Louisiana. She sold Avon products for over 35 years, being in the top-selling President's Club for 32 years. Kathleen always remained active in local events and organizations. She belonged to the Jasper Pilot Club for 42 years, serving three times as President. She was a member of the Jasper Extension Homemakers, DAR and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She served over 25 years as election judge for Jasper County Precinct 7, and 15 years as election judge for JISD. She liked to travel nationally and internationally and enjoyed attending church conferences and retreats throughout the USA. She even had the privilege of seeing Wimbledon in person in both 1985 and 1999. Home, though, was always Jasper and always Texas. Her two greatest loves were for Jesus and her family. She attended First Baptist Church Jasper from early childhood and remained an active member throughout her life. She served on the teller committee for 30 years, belonged to Women's Missionary Union and enjoyed Happy Years Seniors group, twice serving as President. She understood the unending love and amazing grace of her Lord and now resides forevermore with Him in Glory! Her other great love was for family to which she gave to unselfishly and completely every day. She sacrificed many opportunities always without complaint to assure that her family received the best. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Esca Prewitt and Cecil Prewitt and her husband of 32 years, John R. Williams who died in 1978. She is survived by her two children, daughter Linda Kay Ward of Bedford and Dr. John R. Williams, Jr. and wife Connie of Knoxville, TN and by two granddaughters, Victoria Grace and Isabella Joy Williams of Knoxville, TN. Kathleen always did her job and tasks completely and accurately. We know that she was welcomed in heaven with "Well done, good and faithful servant". Memorials may be made to Jasper First Baptist Church Building Fund, 314 N. Main, Jasper, TX 75951.
