Walking the halls
By BETTY POWERS Principal of Parnell Elementary

I am sure there are some who would disagree, but it seems to me that this school year has "flown by." We just completed our first round of TAKS assessments and spring break.

We were very pleased with the effort our students made on the TAKS assessment, because they worked hard, used their strategies, and took their time. Most importantly, they realized the importance of doing their very best.

Our next round of assessments will be April 29 and 30. On the 29, both third and fourth grade will be taking TAKS math, and the 30 our fourth graders will be taking TAKS reading.

Math after-school tutorials will begin Monday, April 7. As always, our teachers and students are continuing to work hard in preparation for those tests.

This is such a busy time of year. There are activities at Parnell Elementary that we would like to invite parents, grandparents, and friends to attend. We have an outstanding music department. Mrs. White, our music teacher, is busy planning the third and fourth grade spring musicals.

The fourth grade musical, "Make a Difference" was Thursday, March 27. "When I Grow up…" is the musical to be presented by our third graders. The dates are Tuesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 3 at 6:30p.m. Our librarian, Mr. Emfinger also has a Book Fair planned for that week.

We appreciate the support of our parents and the community. The staff of Parnell Elementary is working very hard to help our students reach their full potential and be successful.
