Brady reacts to report that doctors support universal health care Congressman Kevin Brady (R-Woodlands) reacted to a recent report from Reuters indicating over half of American doctors surveyed support universal health care. "There is little doubt that there is a tremendous amount of frustration with the current state of health care in America. In a poll that I conducted asking Texans how they would fix health care, nearly half supported a government run, universal health care program similar to that in Europe and Canada. However, slightly more than half said they wanted no government involvement at all. Clearly, people are fed up with the current system and are willing to try anything new, so long as it is different from what we are doing now," said Brady. In August of 2007, Brady traveled throughout east and southeast Texas on his 50 Ideas Campaign asking families, businesses, and medical professionals, what they think Congress ought to do to make health care more affordable, accessible, and good for the long run. That included a stop in Jasper as Brady visited with healthcare professionals at Dickerson Memorial Hospital. At that meeting, Brady heard from area physicians and residents. "Families and medical professionals are genuinely worried about health care, yet Congress seems unwilling to act in a comprehensive and effective way," said Brady. "The health care crisis that we find ourselves in must be solved and Congress must take meaningful action now." |
