SRA warns water rising
Toledo Bend never designed for flood control

From too little water to too much - the Toledo Bend Project joint operations office issued a warning Sunday, March 30, that they may have to open the spillway gates, and that those living below the dam should be aware that the river could reach flood stage, requiring evacuation.

Less than two years ago, Toledo Bend was so low that many fishing tournaments were cancelled or moved because piers and boat ramps were high and dry.

By Sunday night, heavy rains has raised the reservoir level to 171.86 ft. MSL and both generators at the power house were running 24 hours a day.

Up to date reservoir elections and releases are available 24-hours a day by calling 409-565-2273 or 337-286- 5253.

Toledo Bend was not designed as a flood control reservoir; the press release from Sabine River Authorities says it may experience "a significant rise in elevation in a short time span, as much as one to two feet in a 24 hour period."
