James C. Flippo Memorial services for James C. Flippo, 85, of Brookeland were held March 28 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. James died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur, Texas. A native of Alabama, he was a longtime Texas resident and had lived in the Brookeland area for the past 30 years. He graduated from High School in Alabama then joined the Merchant Marines where he served for over 45 years as a Seaman until his retirement. His era of service encompassed WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Of his many Merchant Marine stories, one was noted because his orders changed at the last minute, allowing him to miss being on a ship that sank. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mowing, working on his tractor but mostly just riding around in his truck. Survivors include his wife of over 30 years, Penny Flippo of Brookeland, stepson, David Cox of Jasper, step daughter Patti Cox oaf Fort Worth, nephew Jimmy Pinkerton of Alabama and one niece, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. |
