Lady Dawgs fall to Kirbyville 10-3 Jasper Lady Bulldog softball team lost 10-3 to Kirbyville Friday night and are still looking for their first district win. The teams were tied until the fifth inning when "the wheels came off", Coach Nancy Walker said. Jasper got all three runs in the first inning. Chanel Lewis was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and Brittany Shaw got on with an error, moving Lewis to third. Lewis then scored on a passed ball. Keyna Mason got on base on a dropped third strike, and when the Lady Wildcat catcher overthrew first base, Shaw scored. Brittany Bozeman was up next. She got on with an error and Mason scored. Jasper had two hits, three errors and stranded nine on base. Kirbyville got 11 hits with six errors. Lewis singled in the fourth; Murissa Mays, in the third inning. "We played much better defensively against Kirbyville until the fifth inning," Walker said. "Jesse Cordova had two strikeouts and two walks. We don't expect her to throw a lot of strikeouts, but that means we have to play good defense." Walker said that Andrea Castle and Chanel Lewis did well in the outfield, and Keyna Mason did a good job behind the plate. Mason and Jocelyn Land threw out one player who tried to steal. Mays is back at third after after being out with an injury and also played a good game. Mays' injury mean moving players to positions they don't normally play. Also, Land, Bozeman and Bailey Richardson had a good defensive game, Walker said. "We are still working on hitting," Walker said. "We are still not getting enough hits." Jasper played Orangefield Tuesday night and will be at home Friday against Bridge City. Game time is 6 p.m. |
