Newton gets new trooper

Shana L. Neel of Jasper graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety's Training Academy.

She began the 28- week training academy in September with instruction from over 100 subjects. She was taught counter-terrorism, traffic and criminal law, arrest and control procedures, accident reconstruction, first aid and Spanish.

She also received extensive training use of force, communication skills, firearms, driving, criminal interdiction, cultural diversity and physical fitness.

"These new troopers receive the best law enforcement training available," said DPS Director Col. Thomas A. Davis Jr. "They joined a proud law enforcement tradition and we welcome them to the DPS family." S

Neel will be assigned to the Texas Highway Patrol in Newton.
