Armitage announces candidacy for JISD board

Armitage
Carolyn Armitage has announced her candidacy for the Jasper ISD School Board of Trustees. Armitage and her husband John moved to Jasper 28 years ago when he took a job at First State Bank. Since then, all three of their children, John IV, Shannon, and Andrew, have graduated from Jasper ISD.

"When my husband and I moved to Jasper, I left a career in accounting at Gulf Oil in Houston. We had decided that we would like for our children to be raised in a community such as Jasper. I was able to be the "stay at home" mom whose involvement evolved from room mother, to HOST tutor, PTA President, numerous JISD committees and eventually school board member. I served on the board from 2004 - 2007," said Armitage.

"My three years of service on the board has provided me with great experience as well as numerous hours of board member training. Because I am a self employed bookkeeper, I have the time as well as the commitment necessary to serve effectively on the board. One of the reasons I served was that since I felt my children had an excellent educational experience at JISD, should repay that by working to keep the educational system strong for future students."

"Our district is facing many challenges as state standards become higher and funding becomes tighter. If elected to the school board, I would try to represent all parents in the district and be their advocate."

"After having had children in the district for 25 years, I feel I can truly say that I would always serve on the board with the best interest of the students as my guide."
