Four from JHS rodeo team advance to state The Jasper High School rodeo team recently competed in the regional finals in Nacogdoches, and four JHS students qualified to go to state in Abilene this summer. The Jasper students who advanced include Billy Morian, who placed 4th in steer dogging, 5th in tiedown calf roping, and 6th in boy's cutting; Shelby Phillips, 3rd in girls cutting; Brittnie Lewis, 7th in girls cutting; and Brad Martindale, 4th in saddle bronc riding. In addition to advancing to state, Morian was named Boy's Rookie of the Year, and he was 3rd in Boy's All Around category. Also, Shelby Phillips was 10th in the Girl's All Around category. "We have had a great year. Everyone on the team has worked hard and made this a fun year," said Ed Meyer, JHS rodeo team sponsor. "The bull riding and saddle bronc events won't be the same next year." |
