Rainbow showers

The Rainbow Room is holding a shower for babies through teens today through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Child Protective Services office at 928 Marvin Hancock in Jasper. The room stocks diapers, clothes and toys that caseworkers can pick up any time of the day or night; by law, all items must be new and unused; call 383-5571.

Brookeland senior night

Brookeland High School class of 2008 will have senior night at Sonic Drive-In April 24 from 5 - 7 p.m.

Steak and burger dinner

The Boys and Girls Club of Jasper will hold their 14th annual steak and burger dinner April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harvest Church, 10,000 room. There will be silent and live auction items and guest speaker Vincent Adams; call Melissa Armstrong at 384-6845.

Alzheimer's Association

The Alzheimer's Association and Wesley United Methodist Church, 3515 Helena Ave. in Nederland, will discuss aging, Alzheimer's and related dementias April 25 at 6:30 p.m.; Debra Brozak, 833-1613.

Fiddling Contest

The second annual fiddling contest will be April 26 at the Newton County Fair from noon - 2 p.m. There will be a first - third place winners. To enter call Christye Shaw at 379-2200 by noon April 25.

Relay "Dawg" quilt

The all-night fund-rasier Relay for Life is April 25-26. The Few Primary team is selling chances on a bulldog quilt; proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. For chances, contact Few Primary. For more information on teams or the event, call Sandy Flores at 384- 8196.

Newton County Fair

The Newton County Fair and livestock auction continues throught April 26 at the fairgrounds. It includes a carnival, entertainment and arts and crafts. Contact Lee Fillyaw at 381-0842.

JISD band car wash

The Jasper band, sixth - 12th grade, will have a car wash April 26 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Garden Center.

Past Matrons and Patrons

The Past Matrons and Patrons Club, District 4 Section 2, will hold its quarterly meeting April 26 at 11:30 a.m. at Beaumont Chapter No. 71 in Beaumont, 8175 Gladys St.

Trail ride

A benefit trail ride for Brandy Racy will be held April 26 beginning at 8:30 a.m. five miles east of Woodville on CR 3550. The trail ride, auction and barbecue lunch is to help Racy, a victim of an automobile accident, with medical expenses.

Benefit Account

Abenefit account has been set up at Texas State Bank to help Julie Calughton Cannon, account #12983195, and her son Jared with medical and funeral expenses for her husband Todd Cannon who died recently of cancer; 423-7402.

Project graduation

Project graduation Novrozsky's night will be May 1 from 4 - 9 p.m. The next meeting will be April 28 and May 6 at 6 p.m. in the JHS library. For more information call 384-7866.

JAM session

Jasper Area Musicians will begin meeting the first Thursday of every month May 1 at 6 p.m. at the Jasper Roadhouse, Hwy. 96 N. of Jasper. JAM offers a chance to listen to music and meet other musicians. For more information go to www.square-one-band.com.

ETHAN Telethon

Christian radio station KTXJ 102.7 and Brookshire Brothers will hold a telethon May 2-3 to raise funds for ETHAN, East Texas Health Access Network.\, a nonprofit who coordinates health and social services for many parts of East Texas and Louisiana; www.ethannetwork.org.

Cowboy Stew

The Woman's Civic Club will sell cowboy stew for lunch on the courthouse square in Jasper May 7.
