Dotson trial set to begin May 19

Jury selection in the trial of Jack Dotson is scheduled to begin Monday, May 19, according to a respresentative of the Jasper County District Attorney's office.

Dotson is accused of shooting to death James McClelland, 55, on a rural Jasper County road on Dec. 15, 2005.

"My whole family wants to see closure on this case," said Kurt McClelland. "This has been very hard on me."

The case has been granted a number of continuences since Dotson was arrested for the murder of McClelland. In 2007, the defense was granted a continuance. In January of this year, the prosecution was granted a continuance in the case.

The trial was was cancelled in February of this year after Dotson was hospitalized with a case of pneumonia.

"Whatever the outcome of the trial is, we just want this over with," Amy McClelland said. "Everyone needs closure on this."
