Garnett Leon Kelso

Garnett Leon Kelso died Saturday, April 19th at the age of 64. Leon resided in Jasper, and passed in his home. He was born in Chase, Kansas at the Lyons Hospital. He was born to Raymond Garnett Kelso and Jessie Opal Raulston Kelso.

Leon was active in high school, participating in track, light weight boxing, football, and basketball. He participated in the school plays and played a part in the school yearbook. Leon graduated high school in 1962 and went to the junior college in Kansas for approx. a year. Leon then joined the Navy and proudly served his country in Vietnam. Leon also worked as a long haul truck driver, carpentry worker, then went to work for Texaco and retired in 1994 when he began his career with TDCJ. Leon retired from TDCJ in 2006.

Leon was survived by three children, Paige Kelso of Mesa, Az., Shawn Kelso (Julia) of Fort Sam Houston, Tx., Desiree Kelso of Nacogdoches, Tx. Leon is also survived by two brothers, James Kelso of Tulsa, Ok., Roger Kelso of Houston, Tx.. Leon is also survived by 9 grandchildren.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Millard and Darrell Kelso, both of Chase, Ks. Leon is also survived by Koach Kelso, his beloved and best canine friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lakes Area Humane Society. Leon's family wishes to thank Ebenezer Baptist Church for all their help and support along with family and friends. Leon will never be forgotten for his love and care of other people.
