Newton Lions

The Newton Lions Club will meet May 1 at noon at the First Baptist Church of Newton to discuss results of the fair, the scholarship program, the Texas Scholars lunch, and elect officers.

Tri-County Community

Archeological Society

The Deep East Texas Archeological Society will meet May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Newton County History Center. The meeting, presented by Charles and Sharon Kerr, will be about nautical archeology. Call 658-7154.

Cowboy Stew

The Woman's Civic Club will sell cowboy stew for lunch on the courthouse square in Jasper May 7.

Barbecue sale

The Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department will sell barbecue May 7 next to the P.N Ashy Store at 10 a.m. - the parade.

Jasper Lions Rodeo

Ticket sales are open for the Jasper Lions Rodeo, May 7-10. Performers will be David Lavender on Wednesday, Eddy Raven on Thursday, Trent Tomlinson on Friday, and Luke Bryan on Saturday. Parade begins at 5 p.m. May 7.

Lakes Area Rose Society

The Lakes Area Rose Society will mett May 8 at 7 p.m. in the Jasper City Council Room, 465 S. Main St. Call 423-4756.

Regional Arts Center

The new exhibition, "Images of Texas," at the East Texas Regional Arts Center, 364 N. Austin St. in Jasper, will open with a reception May 10 from 2 - 4 p.m. The artwork will be displayed thru June 3. For more information call 384-2404. Hemphill Playday
