Country club fire closes restaurant temporarily

DAMAGE CAUSED BY HEAT, smoke and debris falling from the attic was limited to the kitchen and dining areas at the Jasper Country Club, but golf tournaments and other activities continue.
The fire at the Jasper County Club last week has shut down the dining area for an estimated 90 days, but the greens, the pro shop and other amenities are open and proceeding as normal, according to Kristy Hull, club manager.

Jasper Fire Marshal Stephen Williamson said, "My investigation found that the fire started by the freezer/ cooler unit on the west side of the building. The winds out of the south pushed the fire north, which caused the fire to enter the attic area.

"Damage caused by the fire was limited to the attic along the west side of the building... and limited to the kitchen and dining areas," Williamson said.

Hull said all events in the restaurant have been cancelled or postponed until August. The deck and patio bar are still open to members. The pool will open as planned May 24.

Owner Lynn Few said no golf tournaments have been affected, but there will be a total restoration in the dining area.
