Area youths capture honors at Pitch, Hit and Run competition As many as 13 participants competed in the PITCH, HIT & RUN Competition hosted by Jasper Youth Baseball Association on April 19 at the Jasper Youth Baseball complex. The first place winners in each age category are: Cayne Ueckert was the 11-12 year old Overall Champion with a total score of 822 points. Cayne also took first place in the Pitching skills portion of the competition. Brad Shivers, the Overall Runner-Up, took first place in both the Hitting skills and Running skills portion of the 11-12 year old competition. Eric Thomas was the 13- 14 year old overall champion with a total score of 885 points. Eric also took first place in the Hitting skills. Matt Perdue took first place in the Pitching skills and in the running skills of the 13-14 year old competition. Ueckert and Shivers both have qualified to compete in the Sectionals to be held May 17 in Deer Park, Texas. If they qualify at Sectionals, they will compete at the Team Championship during a Houston Astros game at Minute Maid Park. The finals of the 2008 Pitch, Hit & Run competition will be held during the 2008 Major League Baseball All-Star Week at Yankee Stadium in New York. Whether it's aboard 2,000 pounds of angry bull or aboard a festive float filled with eager youngsters, there are plenty of opportunities to ride. Pitch, Hit & Run is a baseball skills competition that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in pitching, hitting and running with scores determined by individual performances in each skills event. |
