Two incumbents and a political newcomer captured the three Jasper city council positions at stake during Saturday's election. All three winners led after the early voting numbers were released and coasted to their victories.

Tommy Adams was re-elected for another term in office as he defeated James Collier 72-60 for the District 3 seat. Adams led 52-46 after early voting.

Adams, who had been hospitalized for weeks prior to the election, was elected for his second term in office and didn't really do any strong campaigning prior to the election but did seek to win.

Gloria Monzingo was reelected for another term as she defeated former Jasper city secretary Tommy Boykin 151-97 for the District 4 seat. Monzingo led 129-73 after early voting.

"I was very pleased with the results and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me," Monzingo said. "I really didn't know how this election would turn out but I put a lot of work into it.

"I plan on getting in office and doing the best I can for the next two years and help the people of Jasper," Monzingo said.

Terrya Norsworthy held off the challenge of Frank "Pizza" Perdichizzi and Wincy Walker for the District 5 seat. Norsworthy garnered 471 votes or 48.06 percent of the vote to Perkichizzi's 355 votes or 36.22 percent of the vote and Walker's 154 or 15.71 percent of the vote. Norsworthy led 365 to Perdichizzi's 219 and Walker's 114 votes.

"It feels great," Norsworthy said. "I would like to thank my pastor and my church members and the citizens of Jasper for getting out and voting for me. That was the difference in this election.

"I prayed about it and and I prayed and asked God if this was for me, then open the door and He did open the door," Norsworthy said. "You can tell by numbers who voted in the election that the doors were opened.

"I have a lot to learn and I'm willing to learn and I'm going to take my time and do the best I can for the citizens of Jasper," Norsworthy said.

All three were sworn into their terms of office during last night's city council meeting.
